I learned a hard lesson this past week. It started last Tuesday night, when I noticed the formatting of my website was wrong. In my concern to resolve the issue as soon as possible, I took matters into my own hands and tried to fix it.
Twenty-four hours later, I was completely rebuilding my site from the ground up.
It was an exhausting, stressful week, but I came away with three lessons that apply to all areas of life, including health and wellness.
Hopefully these will inspire you to keep moving forward despite setbacks!
Lesson One: Quick fixes often result in hours of self-correction later.
In my frenzy to fix my website problem, I tried to make little quick fixes. But in the end, I destroyed the structure of my site and spent multiple days to correct it.
In your health journey, remember that quick fixes are just that. Quick. Fixes. They’re not a permanent solution, and they might actually set you back, causing you to spend more time self-correcting in the long run.
Lesson Two: Trust the experts to help.
Once I realized I was in over my head, I reached out to a web technician for help. I’ve now hired her to help me with ongoing maintenance. Yes, it costs money I hadn’t originally budgeted, but it’s well worth it to avoid this scenario again.
In your health journey, do you need to call in the help of an expert? Maybe it’s attending a fitness class, where an instructor will push you with extra motivation. Maybe it’s reading a nutrition website or book for new ideas to eat healthier. If you’re struggling on your own, don’t be afraid to ask others to push you toward your goal.
Lesson Three: Consider a new approach.
In the past, I’ve typically designed and managed my own website. While this has worked for me, I realized that I needed to move it to a more stable platform (which I also used the web technician for). I was able to focus on creating the design aspects of my new site, while letting the tech expert take care of the behind-the-scenes technical support that I’d been lacking before. Yes, last week was a nightmare, but it turned out to be a huge blessing in disguise. I’m so excited to have a stronger platform that has given me greater design flexibility!
If you’ve hit a roadblock in your health journey, consider whether it’s time to take a new approach. Do you need to shake up your exercise routine? Do you need to re-evaluate your food choices? Don’t let discouragement or roadblocks knock you down. Instead, let them propel you toward a new perspective. Self-correct and keep moving forward.
Above all, don’t just sit back and let things continue as they are. If you want to be healthy in the long run, you have to take action today.
I’ll spend the next month doing some minor clean-up around here, and then I’ll be taking the summer off so I can focus on family time. Even though I won’t have new blog posts for a while, trust that I’m walking this journey with you — keeping my eyes on the long-term, engaging the help of others, and moving forward with a new approach.
Cheering you on in the journey!
Sarah
