I’ve been so thankful for God-ordained friendships lately. Do you everย have moments like that? Where you leave a lunch date orย get off the phone and realize that person understands a core part of who you are? In honor of the amazing women in our lives, let’s finish the following sentence.
A good friend is like…
– A pair of fuzzy slippers — Comforting, supportive, and hard to part with. (In honor of Denise Hunter’s interview last week. :))
– A shot — Willing to poke you where it hurts, but they always bring healing.
– A box of chocolates (cue Forrest Gump voice) — Sweet, sometimes nutty, and full of surprises.
– A La-Z-Boy recliner — They beckon you to stay awhile.
– Elastic-waist sweatpants — No matter how much you grow or shrink, they’ll hang with you forever.
Your turn. What is a good friend like? Or what traits do you most admire in your friends?

I love this list, especially the elastic waist one. I admire honesty and goodness. I like humor too. ๐
Sarah Forgrave says
Ya gotta have humor when elastic waists are involved, don’t you, Jessica? ๐
Jessica R. Patch says
A good friend is like a great cup of coffee. Strong without being overpowering, warm, motivating, and always making me smile. Fun post, Sarah!
Sarah Forgrave says
Oohhh, good one, Jessica!
Karen Lange says
A good friend is like a treasure chest. You know good things are stored inside.
Sarah Forgrave says
Love this, Karen! And half the fun is the discovery. ๐
wendypainemiller says
You are a good friend. Wendy-esque. Too cute.
Whirlybird maple tree seeds. They make us look up in wonder!
Sarah Forgrave says
Definitely Wendy-esque, isn’t it? But nothing could be as Wendy-esque as whirlybird maple tree seeds. Love it.
Lindsay Harrel says
Love this list! So cute, Sarah.
Yep, I’ve experienced the shot one and have had to be the one to give the shot. For a good friend, it’s just as hard (or maybe harder) to give the shot than it is to receive one. A good friend doesn’t relish telling another something difficult, but does it when it’s needed.
Sarah Forgrave says
Oh man, those conversations are hard to have, aren’t they, Lindsay? And you’re right…Being the shot giver is just as difficult.
Slamdunk says
A good friend is like finding the remote under cushions and blankets after the kids have gone to bed yet done their best to lose it.
Sarah Forgrave says
LOL, Slamdunk. Good one!
Loree Huebner says
A friend is like a cup of hot chocolate – sweet and warm to keep life’s chills away.
Sarah Forgrave says
Oohhh, I love it, Loree! And I have a sudden hankering for a cup of hot chocolate now too. ๐
Keli Gwyn says
A good friend is like a park bench on a glorious spring day–warm and inviting.
Sarah Forgrave says
We’re having some of that spring-like weather here today, Keli. Love your analogy!
Stacy Henrie says
My favorite quality in a good friend is the ability to be real – to be herself, instead of pretending everything is peachy when things aren’t.
Sarah Forgrave says
Good point, Stacy. Being authentic isn’t always easy, but it brings so much more depth to our friendships.
Melanie N. Brasher says
A good friend is you. ๐ I loved our lunch date! You’re such a blessing to me. {oh, and a good friend is like fine chocolate–good quality}
Sarah Forgrave says
Thanks, Melanie. You know this post tumbled out of me after our lunch, right? ๐
Julie Jarnagin says
When I read “a shot,” I thought you meant a shot of liquor. Lol! I guess that one could work too ๐
Sarah Forgrave says
LOL, Julie! Hmm, maybe I should have specified a flu shot or something… ๐
bethkvogt says
Works for me! ๐

So true, Beth!
Cecelia Lester (Quiet Spirit) says
A nice sweater. Soft, warm and cozy. I have maybe three really close friends. Two of them have been with me when I have had dark days and vice versa.
Sarah Forgrave says
Hi Cecelia! That’s a true test of friendship, isn’t it? The friends who walk through dark days with us are definitely keepers.
Jeannie Mood Campbell, LMFT says
not mine, but a favorite:
A good friend Is like a good bra…hard to find, supportive, comfortable, always lifts you up, never lets you down or leaves you hanging, and is always close to your heart.

Sarah Forgrave says
LOL, Jeannie, That is classic!

I value loyalty in a friendship. They stick with you no matter how tempting it is to bail out.
