Top 5 Signs You’re Reading a Page Turner

We’ve all been there, right? We open the front cover of a book and settle in to the first page. Then next thing we know, we’ve read the entire book without a break…and one sniff reminds us of our lack of a shower.

I recently read my friend Jody Hedlund’s second book, The Doctor’s Lady (I’m pictured with Jody and her book above). Talk about a page turner. If it’s possible, I loved it even more than her first, The Preacher’s Bride. Jody has this way of creating compelling characters and plots that make me stay up way later than I should. (Which also means she owes me a month’s worth of Starbucks. Just sayin’.)

Anyway, I decided to devote this month’s Top 5 List to those books that don’t let us go. So here it is…The Top 5 Signs You’re Reading a Page Turner.

5. You’ve forgotten to brush your teeth for 24 straight hours, and your mouth has more sweaters than a Nordstrom sale rack.

4. Your husband is tired of making Campbell’s chicken and noodle soup for supper.

3. Your kids are still planted in front of the TV, and Nick Jr. is now Nick at Nite.

2. You stop consuming beverages because you don’t have time for potty breaks.

1. Your child asks you a question, and you snap, “Be quiet! Eli and Priscilla are about to kiss!”

If you want to get your hands on Jody’s book and snap at your kids…er, read those pulse-pounding kisses…you can learn more at her website here. :)

What makes a novel a page turner for you? What’s the quickest you’ve ever read a book?

Last week’s Amazon giveaway winner is Debbie! I’ll email your prize this week. =)

Month-End Report: Proud New Owner of a Mommy Van

My month in 200 words or less…

TV Choice: Little Einsteins for my son. Winter Wipeout for me. Dizzy Dummy gets me every time.
Book Choice: Rumble in the Jungle for my son. Power of a Praying Wife for me. Didn’t have much time for fiction reading this month.
Favorite Blog: Books & Such. Always good info, but they’ve been on a roll lately.
Writing Pal Shoutout: Keli Gwyn . . . Love, love, love her.
Favorite New Buy: A minivan!!! Yes, I’m one of those moms now.
Toughest moment(s): Having my hubby away for a week while my sister was in the hospital. Praying every day that she’d get a new heart and hearing God say, “Wait”.
Favorite Moment(s): Lots of good sister time. Hearing my daughter say “mama” and watching her learn how to give baby kisses. Experiencing the thrill of starting a new story.

What about you? Copy this list into the comments and fill it out for yourself. I’d love to hear about your month!

Month-End Report: Potty Training and Operation Super-Wife

What I did this month:

- Changed approximately 200 diapers and Pull-ups
- Potty-trained my little man and (maybe) indulged in a few bites of candy rewards myself
- Became a Twitterer
- Set my alarm for 6:30 every morning (Notice I didn’t say I got up at 6:30 every morning)
- Had an article published on Ungrind
- Critiqued a friend’s manuscript
- Plotted my next novel
- Started Operation Become-Super-Wife (which includes the next 5 items)
- Started a prayer journal and wrote in it every morning
- Read my Bible every day (with a couple exceptions…hey, nobody’s perfect)
- Started reading A Wife After God’s Own Heart and The Power of a Praying Wife and prayed for my husband at least once a day
- Asked God to help me avoid negative words toward my husband (Had to bite my tongue a few times, but my home was so much more peaceful as a result!)
- Sought out a friend to hold me accountable
- Played “jungle”, “kitchen”, “barn”, hide-and-seek, and watched more Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episodes than should be legal
- Prepared for my sister to come down here and start the heart transplant process. She’s being admitted to the hospital today and will start the hopefully not-too-long wait. Please pray for her and for our fellow heart-transplant buddy, Annabelle. Thank you so much!!! I’ll try to keep you updated as I have news to share.

What did you do this month?

*Other Blogging News: I’m being interviewed by Keli Gwyn at Romance Writers on the Journey today! Keli is such a sweet lady, and I was honored to receive the invitation from her. To learn more about me than you probably want to know, come on over and say hi! :)
