It’s been a crazy-busy month in the Forgrave household. We’ve traveled to visit family members and hosted lots of family members. Despite the extra work that comes with overnight guests, I always love filling our house with extra fun.
The other thing that made this a busy month is that I decided to get myself back in shape physically. Lots of things contributed to this decision, but the biggest ones were getting fed up with my laziness and weak claim that ”I don’t have time” and also encountering health concerns that are worsened by a poor diet. As someone who has been very health-and-exercise conscious in the past, these things don’t settle well. In my husband’s loving words, I’ve now become a “workout fiend” (more on that below).
So with that setup, here’s my month in 200 words or less:
TV choice: Imagination Movers for the little man. So You Think You Can Dance for me. (And no, I don’t think I can dance, but I attempt it in Zumba class every week.) ![]()
Book choice: She’s Gonna Blow by Julie Ann Barnhill. A must-read for all moms.
Favorite blog: All Points Whole - Daily encouragement, honesty, and humor for people seeking a healthier lifestyle.
Writing pal shoutout: Heather Sunseri - A beautiful writer with a beautiful heart.
Biggest Challenge: Getting up at 5am for fitness boot camp twice a week and sweating it out in the muggy weather.
Biggest Blessings: Staying on track with my weight loss goals and having lots more energy. Getting to spend time with family (who also help entertain my kids…can’t go wrong with that!). ![]()
Favorite quote: ”God doesn’t want us to know the future, He wants us to know Him. He wants us to trust Him to guide us into the future one step at a time.” ~ Stormie Omartian. Anybody else need this reminder as much as I do? Not sure why I get so anxious sometimes, but there is much peace to be found when I rest in Him.

Summer is officially here, and I welcomed it with all sorts of activity. The month of June revolved around a family vacation to the Ozarks. We met good friends that we haven’t seen for a few years and watched our kids go down the same waterslide at least twenty times per day (no joke).
Then I returned home to find out I finaled in a writing contest. Woohoo! This final was for my newest book that I’m still in the process of drafting. *insert panic here as I scramble to finish the crazy thing*
Anyway, back to the point of this post…I’ve decided to devote this month’s report to all things vacation. So here it is in 200 words or less.
TV choice: My friend Kelly and I snuck in some Food Network while the dads took the kids fishing. Rare quiet moments.
Book choice: I took two books…Sweet Waters by Julie Carobini and For Better or For Worse by Diann Hunt. Both were perfect vacation reads.
Biggest celebration: My daughter’s first birthday. I’m still in denial that she’s really one year old. *sniff*
Favorite memories: Playing late-night euchre matches, in which the ladies won the majority, thank-you-very-much. Watching my son have a blast swimming with his new friends. Helping my daughter face her fear of water and snuggling with her afterwards.
Moment that made me feel like a real writer: Meeting my editor from Ungrind in person! She’d just moved to the Ozark area a couple weeks before our vacation. She and I had a great time chatting while entertaining our kids. And wouldn’t you know…We ended up at the Christian book store.
(That sweet baby in the picture is hers. Mine was hanging out in a stroller.)

Do you have any summer vacation plans? Any favorite vacation memories to share?
(Be sure to come back on Wednesday for a bonus post this week! I’m joining the ACFW Conference blog tour with a fun Top 5 List.)
