Meet and Greet with Author Krista Phillips (Plus a Book Giveaway!)

Meet and Greet is a regular feature on my blog. Be forewarned…Unlike the typical interview, these brief questions will get to the true heart of my guests…or at least the heart of what’s in their kitchen. Grab a latte (or other beverage of your choice), find a comfy chair, and prepare to make a new friend.

All my Meet and Greet guests are special, but I’m extra, extra excited today because my critique partner is here! Krista Phillips’s debut novel just released, and I’m soooo excited to share in the celebration! Having gotten a sneak peek at her book, I can assure you that it will make you laugh out loud and turn pages way past your bedtime.

Krista Phillips writes inspirational romantic comedy. She believes a sprinkle of laughter (and a wee bit of chocolate) makes everything a little better! She blogs regularly about life as a wife, mother, follower of Jesus, and mother of a child with a rare congenital heart defect at www.kristaphillips.com. Her debut novel, Sandwich, With a Side of Romance, releases in September, 2012.

Welcome, Krista!!! Have I said how excited I am you’re here?! :) Let’s get to the questions, shall we?

Opener Question: What seven words best describe you?

Pretty, Good, Awesome, Amazing, Smart, Funny, Talented (I asked my children and this was their answer…I totally have them fooled!!!!)

MY answer would be…

Perpetual-dieter, Procrastinator, Nice, Forgetful, Opinionated, Goofy, Dreamer

Either/Or Questions:

1) Fjords of Norway or Pyramids of Egypt? Pyramids… only because I have no clue what a Fjord is. Actually, let’s do the Fjord thing. I’ll get to learn something!

2) You’ve Got Mail or Notting Hill? Are you kidding me??? You’ve Got Mail. No competition there.

3) Kit Kat or Twix? Twix. Nothing beats chocolate and caramel!

4) Day at the mall or Day at the spa? Um. Both? A day at the mall that has a spa in it I can go to? If I have to choose, it depends how much money I have. If I was only going to window shop, I’d take the spa. If I had a shopping spree and could buy whatever I want, mall.

5) Jump in with both feet or Enjoy the view? Jump in with both feet. Although I’m working on trying to enjoy the view more!

6) Gourmet chef or Chef Boyardee? Neither. McDonalds. *grin*

7) Flip flops or Slingbacks? Flipflops, but ones without the little thing between your big toe and whatever you call the toe next to it. Uncomfortable!

—–

LOL, Krista, I have to admit to being a flip-flop addict, but I don’t blame you for finding them uncomfortable. Definitely not a shoe for a day at the mall. :) And wouldn’t it be nice to get an unlimited shopping spree? I can’t even imagine where I’d begin! Hmm, The Loft, Bed Bath and Beyond…the options are endless.

Thanks so much for visiting today! I can’t wait to read your book (again)! :)

Sandwich, With a Side of Romance

She moved to Sandwich, Illinois, in search of a new life, but ended up in a giant pickle.

Sandwich represents hope for twenty-year-old Maddie Buckner and Kyle, the eleven-year-old brother Maddie wants to spring out of foster care. Then she loses her new job after less than a day. It’s all Reuben-the-Jerk’s fault, and she’s determined to make him right the wrong.

He does so, reluctantly, by giving her a job at his restaurant, The Sandwich Emporium. Then crazy things start happening at the restaurant, and Kyle’s foster parents apply to adopt him. To stop it all, Maddie must learn the art of humbling herself and accepting the help God has arranged, risking her heart to Reuben in the process.

And she’d rather eat a million corned-beef on rye sandwiches than do that.

Meet and Greet Round-Robin Style — Writers Alley Crew

Happy Monday, everyone! I decided to mix things up this week and do a round-robin Meet and Greet.

As many of you know, I contribute to a writing blog called The Writers Alley, and I thought it’d be fun to ask my fellow bloggers the following question.

—–

Say you sit down to a catered dinner and are offered the following three-course meal options. Which one do you choose and why? (No mixing and matching!)

1) Appetizer: French onion soup; Main Course: Prime rib and baked potato; Dessert: Creme brulee topped with raspberries

2) Appetizer: Chef’s salad with honey mustard dressing; Main Course: Chicken and dumplings; Dessert: Apple pie a la mode

3) Appetizer: Bruschetta; Main Course: Spaghetti with meat sauce; Dessert: Death by chocolate cake

Would you believe they ALL chose #1?! I loved reading their reasons…

“I’d give my hubby the soup, since I wouldn’t like it. I’d devour the Prime rib, pick at the baked potato (I’m more of a mashed girl) and give the rest to my hubby. The crème Brule I’d LOVE however I’d pick off the raspberries…

I’m a meat/Mashed potatoes kinda girl, what can I say!?!” ~ Krista Phillips

“Oh man…I want to pick number 3 because I LOVE chocolate cake, but for overall most appealing meal…I’d pick number 1. French onion soup, yum! Meat and potatoes, yum! Creme brulee…not as much, but I’d already be so full by dessert, I wouldn’t miss it much.” :) ~ Cindy Wilson

“I would soooo mix and match if I could! But since I cannot, I would go with #1…mainly for the baked potato and creme brule! Oh my, I adore creme brule. Prime rib is okay, but I love potato…cooked any way imaginable. I dislike French Onion soup though.” :) ~ Sherrinda Ketchersid

“Most likely I have been invited to this catered meal by either the president of some organization who is under the impression I will donate money from my money tree out back, or am on a romantic cruise with my husband dressed in blue jeans because our last shekel purchased the ticket. Either way, my husband would be there. I would choose #1 because I love French onion soup (French–romantic, am I reaching here?). My husband would eat 2/3 of my prime rib because no chef knows how to cook a well done, savory, melt in your mouth prime rib (it always spills red yuck onto anything else on my plate). This would make hubby happy. I would keep my baked potato, scraping off any sour cream to keep my stomach from growling through the boring speech guaranteed to follow such wonderful meals. Last, I’d savor the delicious creme brulee topped with raspberries because I’ve heard (from “High School Musical”) that it is really satisfying.” ~ Mary Vee

“Answer 1 – Of COURSE! I’m a meat and potatoes girl! And it’s CATERED! That means someone else is paying. Bring on that prime rib. Yum.” ~ Pepper Basham

“Well, I was going to pick #1 just for the creme brulee. That is something that is difficult to make perfectly. Took me many practices when working for a patisserie and still not convinced I got it down. I would go for the most challenging meal to make, because when I’m going out I don’t want something I could make just as well at home. Creme brulee fits the bill there.” ~ Julia Reffner

And my favorite response…

“Oh man, you separated the prime rib and chocolate!!!! I’ll have to choose…….#1.” ~ Angie Dicken

—-

Yes, I did separate the steak and chocolate. Can you believe no one was wooed by the chocolate?!

Your turn…Which  meal would you choose and why?
