For all you horse racing fans out there, the Kentucky Derby is this weekend. I usually like to watch it, not so much for the horses as much as the fashion. It’s the one time when Americans give the British a run for their money with fancy hats.
So let’s have some fun today…Imagine you’re going to the Derby and you have to choose one of these hats (no choosing “none of the above” please!). Which do you choose and why?

Fun post!!!
I would pick #1 because I love red and because it’s the smallest hat. I’m afraid with some of the others…I wouldn’t fit through doors! HA!!
LOL, I didn’t think about that, Bekah!
I’d pick number one because I think I’d look best in red. I used to have a black hat just like the one above but no animal print ribbon. I didn’t know peeps wore hats to that. Cool!
Fun, Jessica! That black hat looks like it’d be fun to wear…I’m jealous you have one like it.
I pick #2, but with a much bigger rim. My theory on Kentucky Derby hats is Go Big or Go Home!! The brighter the better!
I started a KY Derby Pinterest Board where I hope to post more and more fashion and other derby-themed fun throughout today and tomorrow.
Awesome, fun post today, Sarah!!
“Go Big or Go Home”—I love that, Heather! And I still need to get myself on Pinterest…so much fun stuff on there. *sigh*
Ooh, the second one all the way. Love it!!
When you mentioned the Kentucky Derby, it made me think of the horse-racing scene in My Fair Lady…all the ladies in black and white and crazy hats…and Eliza Doolittle’s hilarious line.
I love that movie, Melissa! Oh man, now I want to watch it…
Derby is a big deal around here (we live 30 minutes east of Louisville), that’s for sure. Won’t be going, but if I were, I might choose the red hat.
Have a great weekend!
Oh wow, Karen, I didn’t realize you were that close. I’m sure it’s fun to be near the festivities. Hope you have a great weekend too!
I like #3. It’s such a pretty color and I like the big bow.
I agree, Julie.
Oh my gosh! I can’t imagine ever wearing one of those hats. Not because I wouldn’t want to, but because I have no place to wear one. I’d probably pick number one because that would be the one most likely to match whatever I’m wearing
I can see you wearing that red hat with the shirt in your bio picture, Cindy! With the flowers in the background? Gorgeous!
Normally I’d say blue through and through, but I’m going yellow all the way today.

It’s sunny, just like you, Wendy.
The Derby and parties offer great places for people watching. Folks get so creative.
I like the peach #3.
I’d love to people watch there sometime. I’m sure it’d be fascinating.
#3! For some reason it looks more classy to me than all the rest. Fun post!
I like that one too, Heidi.
I’m going to be a rebel and pick the huge black hat with the animal print. I just feel a little wild! Which would you wear??
I like that one too, Jill! I love #3, but I’m not sure how the color would look on me. I guess it depends on how much of a tan I had that day, lol. So…yellow if I’m extra tan. Black if I’m not.
Oh my! The yellow one…except that I don’t look good in yellow. But if I did, #3.
Like Heidi said, it’s just classier…and more subtle…than the others!
I agree, Lindsay! I love the bow on #3.
Oh, #1 for sure. It may not be the biggest, but it’s the brightest! lol… Plus, I just look better in red than the other colors. If the blue were just a little bluer…
I hear ya, Ralene. My favorite color is a shade of blue just a tinge deeper than hat #2.
# 1 for me. I’m to small to wear a bigger hat & I just like it best. I’m a missplaced KY girl.:-) Love Derby Day!
Oh I’d love to see you in that red hat, Wilma! It would look beautiful on you.
#1- red hat. Definitely. Large enough brim to make a statment. Trimmed without being too much. And definitely a slightly twisted brim to add a coy look and bit a pizzazz.
LOL, I like the way you think, Vera.
I like the red hat because of the shape.
Love blue, so have to go with the second one. The last one is pretty but you’d have a severely limited view!
