Happy Monday, everyone! I decided to mix things up this week and do a round-robin Meet and Greet.
As many of you know, I contribute to a writing blog called The Writers Alley, and I thought it’d be fun to ask my fellow bloggers the following question.
—–
Say you sit down to a catered dinner and are offered the following three-course meal options. Which one do you choose and why? (No mixing and matching!)
1) Appetizer: French onion soup; Main Course: Prime rib and baked potato; Dessert: Creme brulee topped with raspberries
2) Appetizer: Chef’s salad with honey mustard dressing; Main Course: Chicken and dumplings; Dessert: Apple pie a la mode
3) Appetizer: Bruschetta; Main Course: Spaghetti with meat sauce; Dessert: Death by chocolate cake

Would you believe they ALL chose #1?! I loved reading their reasons…
“I’d give my hubby the soup, since I wouldn’t like it. I’d devour the Prime rib, pick at the baked potato (I’m more of a mashed girl) and give the rest to my hubby. The crème Brule I’d LOVE however I’d pick off the raspberries…
I’m a meat/Mashed potatoes kinda girl, what can I say!?!” ~ Krista Phillips
“Oh man…I want to pick number 3 because I LOVE chocolate cake, but for overall most appealing meal…I’d pick number 1. French onion soup, yum! Meat and potatoes, yum! Creme brulee…not as much, but I’d already be so full by dessert, I wouldn’t miss it much.”
~ Cindy Wilson
“I would soooo mix and match if I could! But since I cannot, I would go with #1…mainly for the baked potato and creme brule! Oh my, I adore creme brule. Prime rib is okay, but I love potato…cooked any way imaginable. I dislike French Onion soup though.”
~ Sherrinda Ketchersid
“Most likely I have been invited to this catered meal by either the president of some organization who is under the impression I will donate money from my money tree out back, or am on a romantic cruise with my husband dressed in blue jeans because our last shekel purchased the ticket. Either way, my husband would be there. I would choose #1 because I love French onion soup (French–romantic, am I reaching here?). My husband would eat 2/3 of my prime rib because no chef knows how to cook a well done, savory, melt in your mouth prime rib (it always spills red yuck onto anything else on my plate). This would make hubby happy. I would keep my baked potato, scraping off any sour cream to keep my stomach from growling through the boring speech guaranteed to follow such wonderful meals. Last, I’d savor the delicious creme brulee topped with raspberries because I’ve heard (from “High School Musical”) that it is really satisfying.” ~ Mary Vee
“Answer 1 – Of COURSE! I’m a meat and potatoes girl! And it’s CATERED! That means someone else is paying. Bring on that prime rib. Yum.” ~ Pepper Basham
“Well, I was going to pick #1 just for the creme brulee. That is something that is difficult to make perfectly. Took me many practices when working for a patisserie and still not convinced I got it down. I would go for the most challenging meal to make, because when I’m going out I don’t want something I could make just as well at home. Creme brulee fits the bill there.” ~ Julia Reffner
And my favorite response…
“Oh man, you separated the prime rib and chocolate!!!! I’ll have to choose…….#1.” ~ Angie Dicken

Yes, I did separate the steak and chocolate. Can you believe no one was wooed by the chocolate?!
Your turn…Which meal would you choose and why?
*The winner of last week’s Amazon giveaway is Diana Flowers! I’ll email you this week with details.

That was creative!
Loved their reasoning. I would go with #3 because I don’t know if I like French onion soup…and I will not touch dumplings with a 10 foot pole. So #3 it is all the way! (PS I never turn down anything called “Death by Chocolate.”) Missed you last week…welcome back!
LOL, Bekah, Your dumpling comment cracked me up. And I agree…I’d skip the main course and make the chocolate cake my meal.
That is TOO funny that they all chose the same thing.
I’d do the chocolate because the other desserts are NOT my thing and I don’t care if I have meat. I’m not a huge spaghetti person but I’d eat the bread, probably and then head for dessert.
A girl after my own heart, Jessica.
This is a super easy choice for me: #3. I love all the items in that option.
I’m a big fan of Italian food too, Susan. 9 times out of 10, it’s what I request for a date night.
I would choose #1 because I do enjoy a good steak that is slightly pink. I’m not a big baked potato fan, but can eat it. French onion soup is pretty good when done right. And the dessert? Well, that sounds fantastically good. I chose the beef because we rarely eat it anymore. Period. That is because of our enemy heart disease (husband’s quad-bypass) and our dual battle with cholesterol. A good steak is rare (pun intended) in our household! As to why the others chose #1? Well, have you priced the out-of-pocket you would pay for this meal if you prepared it at home? Good beef is totally off-the-chart in price whereas a bird-in-the-hand is much cheaper and you know pasta is cheap. So it’s a no-brainer. A rare treat both gastronomically, economically, and physically.
LOL, Vera, I guess I knew I was making #1 the most expensive, but I thought I might lure some non-meat eaters to the other choices.
Fun interview, Sarah! I’d have to pick #2–I have a strange weakness for salad with honey mustard dressing.
Hope you had a great Easter!
LOL, Heidi. Hmm, now what if the salad had Ranch dressing…Would you still choose #2?
French onion soup meal (with lots of gooey cheese dripping down the side of the bowl). Hey cats. Miss you!
~ Wendy
Hmm, would I be weird if I picked the cheese off the top and left the soup for someone else?
I am all over #1–because I never make it! I make items similar to 2 and 3 regularly.
Fun question!
I hear ya, Jill. I’m a horrible steak cooker, so I’ll take the professional’s version any day.
How fun that all the Alley Cats chose the same answer.
Number 2 is my pick. My hubby and I eat lots of salad and chicken. I haven’t had dumplings in years, but I love them. I’m not a fan of pie, so I’d let Gwynly have my piece. Besides, I’d be too full to enjoy it after the scrumptious meal.
Hi Keli! I’m thinking if you try my mom’s famous Dutch apple pie, you might be converted.
Sarah, that was fun! Great to read everyone’s responses, and I can’t believe they were all number 1
I know, wasn’t that crazy, Cindy?
Ah, cute! Did you not get my email with my answer? I have a feeling Yahoo doesn’t like me. I’m not seeing any of them… :-/
Oh no, Casey! I never got a response from you…It must have gotten chewed up by Yahoo.
A LOT of my emails are getting chewed I think. Boo-hoo! I’m not ignoring everyone…I promise!!
That was a fun post, Sarah. It just proves that an Alley Cat dinner party would go great!
Wendy, We miss having you on the Alley, too! I loved your post today.
Hi Julia! Hmm, now who would pay for this expensive dinner party?
This is such a fun, fun post.
OK, I am not a meat person at all.
But creme brulee — that’s my all-time favorite dessert.
So, I’d have my husband join me, let him eat the prime rib while I ate the baked potato & then we’d share the creme brulee.
And done!
And I was wondering where Casey was …
I like the way you think, Beth. I’m a carb-y girl myself.
(And yeah, I didn’t realize Casey had responded…apparently my email gobbled it up before I could see it.)
#3 of course! It’s because of the dessert of course…Death by Chocolate! Who could pass that up?!….not me!
I’m with you, Judy. If I’m going to die, it might as well be by chocolate.
I would go with number one! Everything on that menu makes my mouth water!
Now you know what to request for your next date night, Loree.
#3 because spaghetti is my fave and chocolate cake? If all else failed, I’d just eat that.
Great minds think alike, Jenny.
#2. awesomeness. my husband likes to try other apple pie’s out there just to continue to make sure that his is the most awesome. i go along for the caloric intake.
Oohhh, we should put his pie up against my mom’s. I’d show up just for the yumminess.
I would have to say meal number two all comfort foods….and I love me some comfort food and a good book anytime of the year and who can turn down icecream…lol
Good point, Sarah! Comfort food and a good book go PERFECT together.
